Brits worth £361bn to online fraudsters

London, UK, March 07, 2008 - Internet users in the UK could lose as much as £10,077 per year as a result of online identity fraud, according to a national survey for a digital security firm.

That's the average total sum of monetary assets available in the online accounts, including banking, gaming and shopping balances held by a UK Web user.

The research shows that Internet users are putting a collective £361 billion at risk by revealing personal data on Web sites that are not secure or are poorly protected.

Three-quarters of UK firms have no contingency plans for data loss

London, UK, Feb 25, 2008 - Three-quarters of UK companies have no contingency plans for data loss, even though 90% had to recover data in the past year, according to research from Kroll Ontrack.

The data recovery specialist surveyed a cross-section of more than 100 UK IT professionals and discovered that 65% of UK firms have no dedicated budget available for data recovery.

IT industry urged to help hit carbon targets

Every UK business must carbon budget when the Climate Change Bill comes before parliament over the next year The IT industry will need to start helping businesses meet their carbon targets, according to panellists at a green computing forum.

The Climate Change Bill has already been drafted by Whitehall and will create legislation that aims to reduce UK carbon dioxide emissions by 60 percent through domestic and international action by 2050.

UK businesses indifferent of information security standards
London, UK, April 11, 2008 - The majority (79%) of those responsible for security in UK businesses are not aware of the contents of information security standards BS 7799 and ISO 27000, according to a government survey.

The Information Security Breaches Survey is conducted every two years on behalf of the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and managed by PricewaterdhouseCoopers (PwC).

Google Extends E-mail Archiving Service to 10 Years
Mountain View, CA, Thursday, October 09, 2008 - Large organizations and enterprise customers are legally required to store business email messages securely and reliably for litigation or other legal issues. Google already offers a one year email retention for enterprise customers who host their business emails on Google's servers. The company now announced that it is extending email the time frame covered by its archiving service to up to 10 years.
